So Much For Love - Dylan Seals- Catwoman

Catwoman is, and has every right to be messed up.  In retrospect, she is much more complicated than Vicki Vale.  Selina Kyle was a disrespected secretary, wait assistant, wait no secretary who seemed to only be heard by Bruce and Alfred when out of the costume, yet still viewed as a sexual figure when almighty Catwomen. From being looked down upon by her boss and co-workers due to her sex, to discovering Shrek’s business plans and being pushed out the window; she lost herself and established corrupted relationships with Batman and the Penguin, as well as a intimate relationship with Bruce based off lies.

Selina Kyle was lonely and unappreciated.  She would be overloaded with work and her tedious mother would call expecting her to have a man to bring home, unlike Vicki who was noticed right from the start on her first day of work.  Shrek wouldn’t have anyone get in his way of his destructive power plant plan and pushed her out the window when she tried to stop him.  When she woke, she suffered from an awesome, in my opinion, psychotic breakdown and reinvented herself as Catwoman- a vigilante seeking revenge against Shrek’s power as well as the ruling and dominance of males in general over Gotham city.

Bruce was attracted to Selina’s spirit right away when she seemed like the person who wouldn’t take orders from Shrek; and playing the role of a femme fatale, Selina longed for Bruce’s wealth.  However, Catwoman's teaming with the Penguin in an effort to rid Gotham of Batman foreshadowed that Bruce and Selina were to discover each other. Complications escalated when Selina fell in love with Bruce Wayne while she still sought to destroy Batman.  After Penguin killed the ice princess Catwoman discontinued her alliance with him.

I found the climax of Selina’s complexities to be when she drew the pistol to kill Shrek with out at the ball while dancing with Bruce.  Here they were dancing romantically, about to escape with each other, and Bruce admitted to her that he was there to see her, but she explained she had other reasons.  It was a pretty sad moment when she claimed she didn’t know who she was anymore and started hysterically laughing yet crying.  Poor Selina.  All Vicki had to worry about was the Joker but Batman’s rescue was certain for her.  Batman/Bruce was never weak around Vicki also, while on the other hand he got the crap beaten out of him by Catwoman and revealed himself for her love and his/their desired freedom from the vigilante life.  Selina held total control with Batman and Bruce for sure.  In the end, Batman rid Gotham of Penguin and Catwoman shocked Shrek to death- finally getting her revenge.  She played out the femme fatale gloriously and seductively and found power in herself and for women with her complex identities.  This was a weird movie.

  1. As far as saying that cat woman every right to be messed up I strongly disagree. I believe her now faults and decisions are a bit understandable, because of what she has put up with and been to but I don’t believe she has a right to it. I never seen her boss and others to look down upon her because of her sex as being a female but I guess it can be taken into consideration as a unforeseen meaning.
Instead I have always seen it as that they look down on her because of her lack of confidence. Her insecurities being the reason why there dominance allowed them to take a great advantage of her. As far as the rest of the blog I completely I agree. Selina was overwhelmed with life. Too much was expected from her from others that she had no expectations for herself. Her purpose of being was to be a convenience to others.
The climax was definitely when the two, catwoman and batman find out thee truth about one another this is when their relationship came for turn an became much more complex than Bruce’s relationship with the previous broad that had his attention before .
