Butler - Catwoman and Batman

Catwoman is a very complex character, and her dual relationship with Bruce Wayne/Batman fuels this complexity. Prior to becoming Catwoman, Selina Kyle was lonely and very smart. She was quiet and not as upfront with her attitude. However, this greatly changes after Max Shreck tries to kill her by pushing her out of a window. This fuels the change in Selina, allowing her to be reborn as Catwoman. As this newly reborn Selina Kyle, she is very forward and upfront with Bruce Wayne. Selina is no longer repressing any emotions, allowing herself to be free to act how she wants to acts. This causes Selina to want to be with Bruce. Selina’s newfound courage and attitude opens her up and causes her to flirt with Bruce. Selina allows her heart to open up to Bruce, which eventually makes her fall in love with Bruce. However, this is not the case when the couple has their masks on and is Catwoman and Batman.

When the two are Catwoman and Batman, their entire relationship dynamic is completely different and does a complete 180. Catwoman and Batman are total enemies, fighting against one another multiple times. Catwoman is independent and does not need to be saved by a man, especially not one like Batman. Catwoman uses her femininity and sexual prowess to her advantage when she is dealing with Batman. One prime example of this is when Catwoman and Batman are fighting on the rooftop after Catwoman blows up the Shreck store. Batman saves Catwoman after she falls along the siding of a building. Then Catwoman starts to run her finger along Batman’s suit, distracting him with the thought of sex. This creates the perfect opportunity for Catwoman to penetrate Batman’s armor with her claw. This sexual prowess really helps Catwoman to overpower Batman in the various fights between the two.

These two different aspects of Selina/Catwoman and Bruce/Batman’s relationship combine with one another when the couple realizes who they both truly are. Selina and Bruce are at Shreck’s masquerade ball, and the two end up underneath the mistletoe. The pair then recites words said to one another during a previous fight as Catwoman and Batman. This causes Selina to ask, “Does this mean we have to start fighting?” This realization puts a hold on both sides of their relationship, leading them to reevaluate their dual natured relationship.
