Turnage - Beetlejuice Death - Olivia Turnage

The reality of death is petrifying to most people, especially Americans. As Americans they want life forever as it is kind of considered the American dream were every good thing last forever, majorly including life.  When thinking about the future Americans tend to look past the thought and reality that we are living to die, but instead look forward to what they can gain in the future. Such as completing college, getting a successful job, having a family and things of greater stature. They look for the positive things out of life, the things that could enhance and make it seem to them brighter. The complete opposite of death. Death to Americans’ is portrayed to be dark, it is seen to be depressing and dark.

As for the elements of beetle juice they made death seem like a laughing matter. Using the subject as if it was a comedic issue. The whole movie was a laughing matter that surrounded around the common issue of death.

Instead of accepting the reality of death Tim Burton fully ignores it, as he shows what he believes is the afterlife to death, which is how we realize he sees death in a funny matter. For instance in the beginning, after the unexpected death of Barbara and Adam Maitland a strange book appeared. A guide to, how to live in the afterlife. Instructions how to go about what they call the afterlife. The book made the nature of death seem less serious, just by the fact it seemed as they were making fun of the situation.

The whole Beetle Guise existence majorly made death seem as it was a light hearted situation as to taken for the seriousness Americans make it for. Beetle Guise character plays as someone who can help the Maitland reach their goal. To get strangers out of there house. As we all know that is unreal in reality, because once you are deceased all your belongings are no longer yours. They are in the hands of others.  This added comedic tension because it gave Barbara and Adam a sense of hope they could prevent others from staying in their home.

Another comedic way was how they were to call and get beetle juice in their presence . They had to call on his name three times "Beetleguise ,Beetleguise  Beetleguise  ..." and he was to just appear from the grave into their presence. Also they had their own secretary of their afterlife to guide them in their troubles. Everything was not of realistic nature.
