Lilly - Big Fish

A scene early in the beginning you are introduced to the giant that is terrorizing the town. Edward decides to go meet the giant and talk/stop him for the town. When they meet, Edward tells the giant that the town sent Edward to be a sacrifice, which is not really true. He isn't afraid because he knows this is not the way he dies since he has already seen it in the old witches' eye. The giant then explains that he hasn't been meaning to scare the town, he's just really hungry. Edward offers to leave with the giant to go to a "bigger" place and they set out on a journey together. Through out the beginning of the journey the giant is suspicious of Edward but soon begins to trust him. When the two of them split to meet at the end of the road the giant thinks that Edward might not meet the giant there, but Edward does meet him and gains his trust. In the end Edward is always able to fully understand people no matter what and accept them for who they are without any judgment. Edward always does his best and believes in people, qualities like that are the reasons people like him.
In another scene of Big Fish there is a circus with many odd and dark looking characters. One of which being the ring leader, who even though has characteristics of a trickster, is still a good friend in the end. At first the ring leader takes advantage of Edward and his giant friend by getting the giant to sign a contract basically forfeiting his life to the circus and having Edward work at the circus for free. In the long time that Edward stays with the circus he his given only not very useful information about the girl is his in love with. Even though this is done, the ring leader becomes actual friends with Edward and the giant. The moment when Edward finds out the ring leader is a werewolf is when the walls break and they become close friends. Where most people would be terrified and reject the ring leader once finding out the truth Edward does not; he sees that the wolf just wants to play. The ring leader likes Edward because he accepts everyone for who they are. Just like many of Burtons other films there is always a way to tie them together. For example, Danny DeVitto plays the circus ring leader who turns into a werewolf and he also plays the Penguin in Batman Returns who was basically the circus ring leader.

  1. I agree with what you said about Ed being acceptable of people who are not the typical type that he is used to. Nobody in the town gives Carl a chance until Ed finally steps up and proves that after all he was not there to cause harm. Ed proves that one should be accepting of people no matter what. Anyway, great blog!
