Prevost-Sweeny Todd

Mrs. Lovett has chosen to use not only the meat of the humans, but the bones, hair, and fingers of Sweeny Todd's victims she chose to do so because of the price of meat in the market has skyrocketed and she did not have great business before so she figured she had nothing to truly lose. Cannibalism is used in both its literal and metaphorical meaning's in Sweeny Todd, obviously Mrs. Lovett plays a huge role in the literal meaning, but metaphorically London is a dog eat dog world where everyone tries to out do the other. The judge uses his power to throw people around like rag dolls because he can and no one stands up to him because he is "top dog" and he takes pride in that. He especially uses his powerful standings in order to keep Joanna locked away and forcing her to marry him, but when she refuses he puts her in an asylum so no one will have her. The people in London are being corrupted through urbanization, and example is Senior Pirelli and his mixer elixir the mystery behind such a modern product makes everyone curious and wanting to buy his product when it is only piss in a bottle. He uses this mystery and modern "technology" to trick people. Just as the government does, they show you so much to keep you interested and worthy, but so little to where you cannot see the black magic behind the curtain. Another thing to note in the film is the industrial and urbanization look and feel of London. The colors are very gloomy and dreary and there are always factory chimneys in the background constantly puffing out black toxic smoke. The setting and feel of the town of London is very similar to Gotham City in Batman Returns. The urbanization of the city is having an affect on people over a course of time, rise in food prices, government controlling and getting away with more, causes the people to go crazy and fend for themselves any possible way they can imagine. For Mrs. Lovett making a living could only come from the meat of her fellow neighbors, and Sweeny Todd’s t revenge could only be settled through the murders of men that live in “the hole in the world like a great black pit And the vermin of the world inhabit it And it's morals aren't worth what a pig can spit And it goes by the name of London.” Adrienne Prevost
