Prevost-Voodoo Girl

Voodoo Girl is a poem about a girl who has had her heart broken by multiple men and many differnet colorful pins puncturing her wounded heart. She becomes so guarded and refuses to let anyone else in, for if she does the pins will stick further in. The men that chase her are referred to as 'Zombies', but Burton still describes her as flawless and breath takingly beautiful as if she can do no worng. When actuality she has put a curse on men that are trying to swoon her. I beleive this is an example of Carl Jung's idea that women search for a masculine image in a woman's physce. Voodoo Girl's way of portraying her masculinity is appearing as if she can not be loved and pushes off men. She shows them a tough exterior when she is actually hurt and destroyed underneath. Voodoo Girl is an example I believe of a femme fatale, she charms her lovers into undesirable love which often leads them to compromising, dangerous, and deadly situations. She has the ability to entrance and hypnotise her victim with a spell as being literally supernatural. Voodoo Girl is a fatal girl and her lovers pay for it. She falls under Carl Jung's archetype as sorcerer or magician. Voodoo Girl is a temptrist and is gaurded only because of her prior relationships. She I believe is similar to CatWoman in "Batman Returns", she came back more gaurded and aware because she had been hurt prior to that, well actually murdered, but you get the idea.

  1. This reminds me of how woman look for things to make them feel better about themselves but when men disappoint them it may hurt them more than they know. I read a story that had that exact theme in High school but, i don't remember the title.

  2. I like how many different things you related from Tim Burton's "Voodoo Girl" to Carl Jung's archetypes. You brought up many different points such as the female fatale, the sorcerer, and even woman searching for the masculine image of the woman's psyche. I enjoyed how you wrote about how she is known to be beautiful, but she really has a very tough part to her as she is avoiding being hurt more and more underneath from the push pins going into her heart. Although I did love your blog post and thought it was very interesting, I wish you would've gone into a bit more detail on some of your points. For instance, rather than just saying she is a temptress and moving on to the next sentence about Catwoman I wish you would've elaborated more on that because I feel like you come up with really great points. Overall, I thought it was very good though!
