Coby - MARS! ATTACKS!

Mars Attacks, a brillant and also humerous film that ridicules the U.S. Government in a very genius way. Mutiple scences throughout the movie generate a sitirical approach towards the way the government works, such as the level of importance of the officials of the  white house vs  unimportance of everyday citizens of this country. One scence in particular brought me to tears of laughter ; the scene goes as follows: as the Martians make their attack on the White House, one the members of the Secret Service directs White House officials through the dangerous terrain and notices that there is a tour and tells the white house officials to go the opposite direction while saying " We can't go through here, there is a tour going on" . While this scene was  could have been analized as a reoccuring joke from the past time the same Agent said the previous qoute, i dwelved more on the fact that Tim Burton was making a joke of how Government officials pay no mind to citizens , such as child, as seen in the film . The agent very well couldve notifed the tour guide that the White House was under attack, but failed to do so. In this scene Tim Burton exemplifies the fact that the  sacred institution we know as the Government can be very well selfish and lack the means to care about citizens that dont have "Clearance".  There also multiple scenes where Tim Burton mocks the Military. One scene that stuck out was the scene where the general finally convinced The President to use Nuclear Weapons after multiple times of asking him . Of course the weapon of mass destruction was belittlified by the advanced technology of the Martians , but the fact that the general was pestering the President about using the weapons is in direct relation to how the government is now in a way. On the News we hear "U.S. to use Nuclear Weapons" at least once everyday. We are quick to threat , and in the past we used these weapons without even knowing the outcome of what could happen. Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc,. these are examples of how the U.S. Government is quick to draw the big guns , without knowing there could be a different solution. Of course using the weapons would make sense because the casualties the martians have already caused. In the movie they did figure out a way to combat the intruders, but still used the nukes. Which I believe Tim Burton's message from how he  satirizes the military is that there is always a solution other than bringing out weapons that could possibly have dangerous reprucussions.

I just want to start off my saying that I love the pictures you chose, very funny. The scene that you mention with the tour, I found hilarious as well, and it is so true that it does demonstrate how little the country cares for our children. That scene can also be said to represent how the government is about appearances; the people on the tour are only supposed to see what the government wants them to see. Whenever anything that is different from what the public is supposed to be seeing, whoever it is that is causing this difference must re rout their path to avoid the public seeing it.
